What do you do when suddenly faced with your own mortality? Singer/songwriter/bassist Kate Burkart took stock and confronted her biggest challenge.
After being diagnosed with leukemia in 2013, and (as of this writing) winning the fight to regain her health, Kate responded by writing a song. "Last" tells an honest story about things that suddenly hold vital importance: how time is going faster than you thought … regrets, and whether they’re worth the energy …. and what the future may or may not hold.
She wrote a song that meets mortality more than halfway.
Known for her passionate, direct singer-songwriter style, Kate has recorded her most personal song yet, accompanying herself on acoustic guitar for the first time.
It’s a new direction that merges the finer facets of her musical past with a powerfully nuanced vision of both the obstacles and possibilities that every life holds.
Kate lives with CML (chronic myelogenous leukemia), her partner Paul, and their two cats. All profits from sales of this song will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society:
